Shanah Tovah!

Blowing the Shofar to mark the New Year

Dusk tonight marks the start of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Rosh Hashanah commemorates the creation of Man according to the Bible, 5 days after the creation of the Earth, and is observed as the new year for people. That is, it's different from the new year for trees. I shall be partying into the night with family and friends, and this should explain the absence of this week's Hunk of the Week. Don't dispair, though. It'll be back next Monday, and I shall be posting before then. To all my fellow tribe members, chag sameach!

While Rosh Hashanah celebrations have little in common with the way we celebrate New Year on January 1st, it's still a time of celebration and family. It's observed in a similar way to the Sabbath, no work, good food, spending time with family and friends. It's a day for resolutions, too, mending your ways, and marking the start of a clean slate.. just like January 1st.
